How to Take Wegovy Pill: Dosing, Schedule & Switching Guide
Wegovy pill is an oral semaglutide treatment that uses a four-stage dose ladder: 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg. The schedule is designed to build tolerance gradually, so the first month is not the same as the maintenance stage.
The dose ladder
- 1.5mg – starting dose
- 4mg – second stage
- 9mg – later escalation stage
- 25mg – recommended maintenance dose in the UK patient leaflet, subject to your prescriber’s assessment
How the schedule usually works
The UK patient leaflet describes one month at 1.5mg, followed by monthly increases to 4mg and 9mg, then 25mg from month four onwards. Your prescriber may need to review your progress and tolerance rather than following a schedule mechanically.
Do not change dose strength on your own. If a dose feels too strong or too weak, speak to your prescriber.
How to take the tablet
The UK patient leaflet says to take the tablet once daily after at least 8 hours of fasting, with a sip of water (up to 120ml), and to wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines. Read the official patient leaflet and follow the instructions supplied with your prescription.
Pill vs injection
There is no simple one-to-one conversion between Wegovy pill and Wegovy injection. They use the same active ingredient but they are absorbed differently. A switch between formulations should be planned with your prescriber rather than guessed from a dosage chart.
If you are struggling with a dose
If you feel too much nausea, vomiting or stomach upset after a dose increase, stay in contact with your prescriber. They can decide whether you should remain on a dose for longer or change the plan.
Safety reminders
