The only oral GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight loss in the UK is the Wegovy tablet (oral semaglutide 25mg), MHRA-approved on 11 June 2026 and now available to pre-order. What oral GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are available in the UK?
The Wegovy tablet (oral semaglutide 25mg) is the first oral GLP-1 licensed for weight management in the UK, available to pre-order from June 2026. Rybelsus contains the same drug at lower doses but is licensed only for type 2 diabetes.
Is Orforglipron available in the UK?
Not yet. Orforglipron is an oral GLP-1 from Eli Lilly still in late-stage trials. It has not been approved or launched in the UK. We track its progress on our Orforglipron page.
What’s the difference between the Wegovy tablet and Rybelsus?
Both are oral semaglutide. The Wegovy tablet is dosed up to 25mg and licensed for weight management; Rybelsus is dosed up to 14mg and licensed for type 2 diabetes. Always follow your prescriber’s advice on which is appropriate.
Why track a tablet when injections already exist?
Many people prefer a daily tablet to a weekly injection. An oral option removes needles and cold-chain storage, which is why the Wegovy tablet and the oral pipeline behind it are a significant development.
